Prayer Groups

Preacher's Aid:

The "Preacher's aid" meets Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00 pm and is open to all.  The initial goal is to review the following Sunday's scripture readings and to discuss issues, questions and controversies that might arise from the readings.  Our experience has been that although discussion may begin with a particular question, it soon extends to a wide range of theologic questions and religious experiences.  There is present in the meetings  a strong feeling of mutual trust and respect that gives freedom and relevance to our discussions.

Women's Sharing Group:

The Women's  Sharing Group meets the third or fourth Thursday each month, from 7PM to 8:30PM. We do some praying, and sharing of scripture and sometimes other readings or articles that women bring in.  For the most part we chat, snack a little, get to know one another, and enjoy each other's company.  It is a social, spiritual, and sometimes spirited evening, and in the view of the growing number of women attending, it has been a success.

Prayer Chain:

The Prayer Chain at St. Nicholas is composed of members of the congregation who feel comfortable praying for others whose needs are made known to them. You may contact any member of the chain to make your prayer request known. That person will email the rest of the folks in the chain; one member has volunteered to call any member of the chain without email service.

The requests are varied; it may be for recovery in illness or accident, for safety, for peace in someone’s life, for a family who has lost someone in death, for teens in danger or anything for which you are praying. Generally, we pray daily for a week, but you can ask us for more time. So that we may offer prayers of thanksgiving, we also appreciate knowing if someone has recovered.

We invite you to be a member of the praying group and/or to call or email one of us if you have a prayer request. All requests are confidential in the group unless we are asked to offer them at the Prayers of the People on Sunday.

Current members are: Betsey and Jack Buckley, Hazel Davis, Connie Dube, and Nancy Nickerson. Their phone numbers and e-mail addresses are posted in the meeting hall. Thanks for your interest!
