Welcome to St. Nicholas Episcopal Church! We are a growing congregation founded in Scarborough in 1988, committed to spiritual growth and community outreach. We hope you will enjoy visiting our website and join us for worship and fellowship Sundays at 9AM! Need Directions?
Welcome ~ Worship ~ Respond
We seek to nurture a community that, inspired by the loving kindness of Jesus Christ, welcomes all people, worships God, discerns God's will for us individually and collectively, and responds to the needs of the world through concern for hunger, peace and social justice.
Our membership includes individuals and families from Scarborough, Portland and other nearby towns. Members are active in church administration, outreach, spiritual development and education. If you are interested in becoming a member of St. Nick's, or would like to learn more about the faith of the Episcopal Church, please contact the church at 883-9437, or stnicholaschurch@yahoo.com.
Terry Foster, M.Div, Ed.D., our Church Musician, has been involved with music since he was five years old. In college, he studied piano with Nathaniel Patch, and organ with Hammond Porter. Terry has been a church organist since the age of sixteen and has played in folk, rock, and dance bands since high school. He recently retired from the University of Southern Maine where he was Director of Extended Academic Programs and Continuing Education. He currently teaches religious studies and music courses in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at USM and co-directs the OLLI Singers.
The "Scarborough Area Episcopal Church" was established in 1988. Over the years we have worshiped in space shared with other congregations and in various dilapidated structures! In 1999 we purchased a five acre lot on US Route 1, and on March 14, 2004 we finished and moved into our new building. See pictures from our moving day! More recently a generous donation was made in the true tradition of St. Nicholas (anonymously, that is) to construct our education wing.
The building is available for use! We are conveniently located on Route 1, and offer plenty of parking, meeting rooms, and other amenities. For more information, see the Agreement for use of the building or fill out the Building use form. The contact name and address is on the form. The forms require Acrobat Reader. See the Sandpiper page for a link to download the reader.
